well ? was Abbotts feigned outrage justified or was he deflecting in an attempt to salvage what he can out of the situation ?
are the australian maintenance crews good or is abbott right in implying someone else can do better ?.. is he un-Australian ?

Hudson Fysh helped train the best aviation engineers in the business (and took great pride in same) Thankfullly that tradition has been passed down through the echelons. I know many Qantas engineers and there is a reason as to WHY they are so good..... the paramount reason is their perserverance to be the best. It is instilled into them. It would be tragic to lose those skills.

Why is Joyce treated as a sacred one?
He seems to be beyond reproach.
Some people who make such bad decisions about the company they're in charge of would have been axed already but Joyce is immune.
thats a good question MM could no doubt answer very clearly if he chose to. the rest doesn't require his insight, its obvious.

"an airline that hasn't lost a passenger. it isn't just that, a place as large as this island needs the expertise of crews like them and the people they train"
Actually LL the often mentioned excellent safety record of Qantas "avoids" deaths from its early operations, the last recorded one being in 1951 a Drover (VH-EBQ) near Lae when 7 people died. Prior to that, there are quite a few fatal accidents invloving Qantas aircraft and crews.
Jan 12, 2013 - Qantas only ranks 13th in the world in terms of airline safety

so why is it accepted so widely ? do figures only cover relatively modern aircraft or did john howard lie 1234 times ?

http://au.askmen.com/top_10/travel/top-10-safest-airlines_4.html Number 4 In the eyes of these judges Eminem Qantas being first in mine though
===
BA With no fatal accidents since 1976, and a staggering six million flights since then, it is a clear winner in our safety stakes. Celebrating its 90th anniversary in 2009,
Cathay Pacific The last fatal accident was in 1972,
TAP Portugal The last fatal accident was in 1972,
In 2009, nine million passengers did the same.
QANTAS
Founded in Australia in 1920, it is one of the worldโs oldest airlines, and flies to 182 destinations in 44 different countries. Its last fatal accident happened in 1951, meaning nearly 60 years ago, and more than 2.5 million flights have passed without major incident. Skytrax consistently places Qantas among the worldโs best airlines.

that would be my post mm is quoting, I didn't plagiarise it though - the link is there with my post. I do agree with everything in my post and certainly think its important that we a have a national carrier - publicly owned would be best. I don't think it is off topic, if it is -

no, it isn't off topic . it's simply a point MM disagrees with.
