Wind Farm Fail

So during the heatwave down south when electricity demand was at it's peak wind farms  produced almost zero power.

That is why renewable energy is not a good idea for the long term security of our energy supplies.

Their mission was accomplished in that case 🙂

Baffle em with scientific jargon is a sure fire winner 🙂

Were you given the visual inpact of a computer model as well ?

It was a physics lecture not a lecture on wind farms. They weren't there to sell anything or accomplish any mission.

The problem with physics is while the theory is there and in Principal the idea is sound its the reality of converting a rising column of warm air into something useful.
A little like storing compressed air for latter use, the volume of air storage would be astrnomical to get any useful energy.

the next piont is that natural gas is far less poluting than coal and as we sell (get it away) to Japan and the USA we could be alraedy using a far cleaner fuel than coal if we really wanted to save the plannet, the fact remains we have lots of coal and the powers dont really care about saving the world.

The UK is under threat of not enought power in the winter to to keep people warm.

This is a result of Conservative govt. (Cameron) going so far to the left to garner popularity that he has put his country at risk.

They have gone from 16% to 8.5% in just 6 years.

Solar efecency decreases as the temp of the pannel increases

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Surface temp @ 24 C which in summer does not take much to arrive at.

when the solar cars first started comming through the Alice they would

spray water on the pannels when the car was stoped

Stay on topic there silverfaun, the discussion is about Wind Farms, not how horrible and nasty Sarah Hanson-Young is.

All I know is my power never went off during successive 43+ degree days like it did in the past and I believe it was because of the uptake in those solar panals which apparantly do not work with all this sunshine.

If you say something enough times it doesn't make it true.

Was the conventional power supply reliable during the recent fires in the Perth Hills?

Isn't it one of the first things to fail duing cyclones and  severe storms?

Doesn't the grid frequently get overloaded during heatwaves causing blackouts or brownouts in major cities?

Don't I rermembereading about blizzards causing massive blackouts accross Canad and th USA during a recent winter?

The solar panels will contribute a little (Vic around 3%),  but in the past (how long ago?) there was not the preponderance of airconditioners that exist today which  now contribute a lot towards peak demand levels well above those of the past, and 3% is not much, and during a hot evening/night becomes,  0.

Solar panels do not really prevent blackouts,  but more generating capacity, better transmission infrastructure, and most importantly:  the  synchronous electricity transmission grid completed in 2006 with  the Basslink connection.

An upgrade to infastructure?

That would have cost money and where did that money come from?

Taxpayers?

There are stories about both sides of the arguement-depends on who you beleive.

Would that be broken and rusting eggs or broken and rusting tables. I never realised till now that wind turbines were capable of laying anything.
