"BY FAR THE LARGEST SINGLE CAUSE: is medical intervention such as Myelograms using Myodil Dye, even water based Myelograms are now know not to be safe, Radiculargrams, Epidurals (Steroids) and Lumbar Punctures and Cortisone Injections into the spinal canal."

Ooh Ah that doesn't sound good, Froggy 😞

At first I thought it was spider veins. So I voted wrong on the poll sorry.

Hi all :-D,

Thanks for taking the time to checkout my post.

It's great to see 1 in 5 of you already knew what arachnoiditis is and great that the rest now have been made aware as well.

This condition is mainly iatrogenic (resulting from the activity of a physician) so is the silent condition of the medical world.

Sadly it is all too common and results in life changing, incurable, chronic pain.

Your best option is to be referred to a Neurologist purple_haize.

happyroo_bunj, the only reason I do know what Haglund's syndrome is because I use to date a physio. That must be excruciatingly painful. 😞

Thanks for the concern from those who know and absolutely adore me. *hair flick* ♥:-D

I'm doing really well. I've started sessions with a clinical psychologist in Autogenic training (that's a form of self hypnosis) to help manage the pain.

So far I've avoided to opiates and only take heavy pain blocking medications that were designed for epilepsy in fact.

I start a trial pain management internet course with the Macquarie University in early April.

I'm getting around on my mobility scooter and using my walking stick all the time now... great for getting a clear path.:^O

All in all, everything is going well and I'm managing brilliantly. xo

For those that are curious -

Haglund's syndrome is a constellation of soft tissue and bony abnormalities and represents one cause of retrocalcaneal pain consisting of inflammation of the regional soft tissues, e.g., retrocalcaneal bursitis, superficial tendo Achilles bursitis, and thickening and/or inflammation of the Achilles tendon, associated with a prominent bony contour of the posterior calcaneus. Each of the soft tissue abnormalities can occur in isolation and need to be distinguished from the Haglund's complex, as the etiologic factors and treatment of these various entities are different.

The diagnosis is often made clinically, with imaging confirmation made by noting the prominence of the calcaneal bursal projection as well as increased density in the deep and superficial pre-Achilles bursae on a standing lateral radiograph. There have been few case reports describing the ultrasound appearance of isolated retrocalcaneal bursitis, but none, to our knowledge, describing the constellation of findings consistent with Haglund's syndrome nor the utility of sonography to guide treatment.

We report a case of Haglund's syndrome, diagnosed clinically, confirmed radiographically, more specifically evaluated with sonography, and treated with sonographic-guided retrocalcaneal bursal injection.

My GP had to look up what Haglunds was when we got the results of the ultrasound and x-rays back.  Sometimes Doctors don't know everything, it would be excellent if they did.

Enough of me, Dixo good luck with all your treatments I sincerely hope you are able to manage the condition.

Ouch, sounds painful.

I didn't know what it is but do know a couple of people with the condition (or similar) you spoke of.

Hopefully one of those got more intervention in time to halt the progress.  That is my BIL. He got more surgery fairly quickly.

Another friend, slipped down some stairs and caused some spinal damage. She was treated as a sooky woman for years and by the time they took her seriously they decided to try surgery and screwed up badly. She ended up with calcified fragments in her spinal fluid.

Her ordeal was terrible. She had a young child and could not walk. Not to mention for 4 years she was basically told there was nothing wrong and to toughen up.
