JUST when you thought the world couldn’t get any crazier ... a bakery in Dubai is selling the world’s most expensive cupcake — at more than $1000 a gobble.
The United Arab Emirates capital is known for its excesses, but how on earth does a few mouthfuls of flour and sugar add up to THAT
Bloomsbury’s Boutique Cafe & Artisan Bakery had dubbed the cupcake the “Golden Phoenix”.
It sells for around $1134 and is made with the finest ingredients from around the would: Doves organic flour and Rachel’s finest butter from the United Kingdom; Amedei Porcelena cocoa from Italy; vanilla beans from Uganda; and sheets of 23-carat gold (because 24-carat is too soft to work with during the decorating process).
Fifteen of the crazy creations have been snapped up since they hit the market two years ago, most of them delivered to the palaces of Dubai’s super-rich sheiks.
Planning on ordering one yourself? The cafe requires 48 hours notice.

It is very beautiful. I wouldn't be able to eat it but I don't suppose it could be preserved.

I was hoping a nice pair of diamond or emerald earrings would be included.
Nope. Even if I had money growing on a tree in my backyard, I wouldn't pay that amount for a cupcake, showered in gold dust.

I saw this yesterday when I was looking around the net about your Fat Duck thread.
That is an awful lot of money for a cupcake.
I guess to a Billionaire, $1000 is like 5c to we mere ordinary people.

I'd buy one.
I'd take a photo of it before I ate it though

Mine do, no matter what I eat.
It doesn't smell either.

Pimpy, don't take a photo after you've eaten it or we will call you Sparkles. 😄
