The one where the guests are told not to bring anything. I have a similar thing happening and need some help.
We are invited to a BBQ lunch and have been told not to bring anything (except drinks) but I don't like to turn up empty handed. What can I take? I have something else on in the morning and won't be arriving until after lunch but OH is going to the whole shin dig. The hosts and other guests don't have sweet tooths(??) so chocs are out, and I won't get there until after the food is finished so a cheese platter won't work either.
Oh, and don't tell me to get OH to take something. He'll just grumble and say but they told you not to bring anything! What does he know 😛

Lurker, if you are not going to be there until after the food is finished, I really don't think it is necessary to take anything except your drinks. If you want to take something to thank the hosts, what about a potted plant or bottle of wine?

I usually take flowers or a pot plant

yes, in addition to your own drinks, take a bottle of wine and hand it to the host(s) saying its for them.

flowers are nice but pot plants are more suitable for house warming parties IMO.

Thank you, all very good ideas. Knowing this crowd though, they will just drink the wine on the spot :^O
I'll try to pick up some flowers on my way there and perhaps a bottle of bubbles.
Thanks

If you bring flowers apparently you must make sure that they are in a suitable vessel so that the host does not need to leave what they are doing to make sure that the flowers are in a vase and have water...
A nice posey in one of those plastic vases with the foam will be good.
or a pot plant..
