Your Christmas ham. Please be careful before you place your order.

I am not vegetarian but I do believe that animals should be treated as humanely as possible. It's not just about how they are slaughtered for human consumption but how they are farmed.

We've all moved towards free range chickens (I hope), but please don't support pigs being kept in stalls.

Unless that lovely expensive leg ham is labelled stall free or free range, please give it a great big miss.

Only if it's marked like that Mr Grizz.  You can easily buy free range ham sliced in a packet but not from the Coles labelled range yet.

If it is stall free or free range it will be labelled very clearly.

Both Woolies and Coles do sell a free range ham, but you need to ask for it where I am. The more people who ask for the free range, the more they order it...that's a good thing.

Just a thought, not to be paronoid or anything but what if the only available meat at the area stores are raised under bad condisions, and maybe half just lie on the package saying their not,, ,,  and placed in the organic section at a greater cost. .. ..  I'd much rather pay less for the truth than to pay more for a lie.

As with any product, one can only go by what is on the label, or ask the sales member to confirm if presented unlabelled at the deli counter.

If a brand, and you are concerned, the other thing to do before purchasing would be to Google the company and see if they have had any reported issues with their products being labelled incorrectly, or mistreatment of their animals. I would rather pay more and encourage free range; if I then find out that company has been outed in some way, for poor or dishonest practice, I would buy from another free range company.

As a prior pork producer, not all small enterprises will have had their products labelled as to the production process, the buyers don't care how the producer farms. Their aim is to pay as little as possible.

Ours were not free ranged as ticks were an issue, rather they were raised in large pens, on sawdust and straw.

Only the large scale producers use stalls. Hopefully pressure from the right places will change that.

It should be made a law that all meat sold has an actual picture on the package of where it came from.

It wouldn't cost any extra to do it. They already have a picture on them, replace with "their" home.

Like this one...how stupid to have a picture of ham on a see through package of ham, lol.

I want the one with a happy pig on it! 🙂
