I went to toasties for about 10 years and loved it... keep meaning to go back but no clubs nearby.
Members go through training books, starting from simple things like introducing yourself.. The more confident you get, the harder the task. You don't have to talk if you're not ready... one of our member was there for several years before he spoke (extreme shyness).
During the meetings they do things like impromptu speaking on a random topic, about 3 speeches from members, a learn how to run a business meeting, how to use props, body language etc. when you make a speech, you get evaluated to help you Improve... it's non threatening and designed to improve confidence. Most meetings are full of laughs.
They're strict about turning up on time. Some clubs are more formal than others. You can enter competitions, go to regional comps too.
I started going because I used to giggle with nerves and had to do a fair bit of public speaking. It really helped me.

I did toastmasters... loved it and gained a lot from them..
We were pretty formal.
You learn how to conduct a business meeting, how to talk under pressure, how to keep composed and think on your feet.
You will be able to go and visit a few meetings before being asked to join. If you have several clubs near you then go and visit them all.
I left because the lady that formed the club wanted to keep control even though she did not hold a formal position... she was very domineering and didn't allow the club to grow as new members joined.. she also told fibs and played people against each other.
It can be a very confronting experience but you will also meet some fantastic people and learn great skills that you will appreciate.
