dead birds washed up on beach

We're staying at the 90 mile beach and we went down to check out the fishing conditions this morning to find a lot of dead birds washed up along the waters edge. They seemed to be right along the beach as far as we could see, one every 10 metres or so. There was also a big huddle of a different bird species a bit further down.

Anyone seen this happen before, what do you think might cause it? I wondered whether they'd all been dunked by a freak wave or something.

They may have been caught up in the super storm.

These events happen on a regular basis

I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

what a horribe sight to come across Punch, poor things. Lucky you, 90 mile beach is a beautiful spot to be in. Maybe it's related to the super storm  around the Phillipines, but that is far , far away from Victoria

birds could have been migrating

as there was a story from a couple of days ago where birds had washed up on a beach they put it down to the fact they were exhausted from there long flight and just drop from the sky therefor end up being washed up on the beach.

We get mutton birds washed up on the beach every year at this time. Purely natural phenomenon apparently. They drop dead from exhaustion on their migration.
