gift cards

You have ti be an absolute plonker to buy a gift card. They are a scam to get free money. They expire. They are seldom the exact amount required by the recipient to purchase the desired items. Requiring either more money to be handed over or money left on the card just becomes extra profit for the business. Stop buying gift cards. They are useless

that's true.

how much cash do you normally

give as gifts?

i think giving cash as presents

is a bit tacky.

To my brother and sister-in-law ยฃ50 each at Christmas, birthdays ยฃ25. Nephew and Niece both ยฃ25 each at Christmas, birthdays a tenner.

Gift cards - we call them vouchers - I think are restrictive, only being redeemable at the shops which they were bought, so therefore by their very nature, restricted to what you can buy. For instance, I couldn't walk into Debenhams and purchase a lawnmower because they don't sell them.

Cash also prevents you maybe losing out, if for instance like your Dick Smith company, it happens to go belly up.

Disclaimer.

(You can also spend the cash on booze and ciggies if you so wish).

i love gift cards.

i usually receive/give coles group etc/

shopping centre ones so the giftee is not

limited to one trader.

you'd have to be an absolute plonker not

to check the expiry date.

yes, that is unfortunate and as

i said, i prefer not to give individual

store ones.

A Sydney-based app specialising in electronic gift cards will allow customers to exchange all Dick Smith vouchers sold on its platform prior to the electronics retailer falling into voluntary administration.

Prezzee has decided to offer customers who have bought a Dick Smith card before the appointment of voluntary administrators the ability to exchange their gift card for one at a different retailer.

KOGAN, the largest online department store in Austalia, has come to the rescue of Dick Smith customers who have gift cards they can no longer use.

The popular website has set up a gift card swap program, where Dick Smith customers can send in their gift card or voucher and Kogan will email a $25 credit to use on products at Kogan ()

That is what the sellers of gift cards want you to think. Oh, giving cash is tacky. Cash is great, It's much better than being given something you'll never use or ever wanted. Sometimes the cash I'm given goes to a pressing bill or even food. Gift cards are bought by plonkers that are influenced by perceptions

gift cards

Have 3 kids and 7 grandies--for many years when i was still in the work force-

-would give them a card with a $50 note to spend on whatever and saved the hassle

of purchasing gifts.

Would get -aftershave and shaving cream back--(have a beard) .lol.

Two years ago -this all stopped---now on the pension.

I decided i wont give money or gifts and dont want any gifts.

Just a hug  and a few items from oppo shops and garage sales has

replaced the cash-----seems too be working.

ps a few years ago -two of the youngest grandies-blew the xmas money

in a few minutes on rides and showbags at a seaside carnivalMan Frustrated...Richo.

not only is it tacky,

it is LAZY.

when choosing a gift card, at least

some effort is put into it.

i hope you at least get a bit creative

when giving cash as a gift

(doesn't apply to young grandkids,

they get excited when given cash

for birthdays)
