i've always wondered - what are tags and what are they for?

what's the tag thingy for at the bottom of a post?

What are you supposed to do with it?

It is so that you can pull up certain posts on a subject.

For example if I need to know what constitutes defamation, I could tag one of your explanatory posts and then when I need to remember what it's all about I can search tags for defamation and up it will pop.... I think.

ok, so if something is tagged, how do you find it?

Go to your own profile page by clicking on your ID name.  Then you can see your tags.

Click on the appropriate tag and it will bring up the post or posts that you have tagged with it.

I just added a tag to this - I wrote "just testing", but I can't see it? but I can see other people have tags? Why do I need to see them, but not my own?
