jonny depp brought his dogs

I am appauled this has happened. Apparently  he brought both on his private plane without declaring them and so avoiding quarantine. It looks like he will be allowed to  send them home rather than being destroyed but I really  think he should cop a  massive fine .I cannot  believe  that  he was  unaware that  we do not allow them

I  hope they are healthy

He has really lost my support on this although  apparently 2000 pepople have signed a change petition  to allow them to stay....IDIOTS

Yes I've just heard this on the news too but I have to ask why should he get preferential treatment because he's a celebrity and no'-ne else is allowed to bring their dogs in without quarantine.

Unfortunately people living outside of Australia and New Zealand just don't comprehend our strict quarantine laws and the reasons for them (or are too arrogant to give a dam).  You would have to think the pilot at least would have known the laws even if Depp himself didn't.

I think the dogs should be returned to US immediately, he should cop a large fine......and be required to make an ad for Australian Quarantine explaining the reasons for Australia's stance on quarantine.

I was on a cruise to NZ a few years ago and the whinging and complaining from some passengers about not being able to take food on and off the boat when in port was annoying - mind you, I do think clearer explanations for the reasons behind the rules would have helped immensly.

It doesn't seem likely that Depp would have ignored the laws if he was aware of them.

Customs should have been onto it when they arrived, not weeks later.

My daughter brought her dog (Labrador) from Cairns to Melbourne by plane. She needed health certificates from a reputable Vet before they accepted the dog to fly. Same on her way back. And that is only within Australia.

One can travel by car and take their pets to another State, but not by plane.

Depp, like most celebrities, thinks he is above the law. Just because he has a private plane does not mean he can ignore our health regulations. Yes, he should be fined, like any other citicen would have been.

I ABSOLUTELY AGREE!!
...............and............. I think that Johnny Depp should bring the dogs to me personally and I will make suitable arrangements to look after them. His wife can stay in Sydney though....  Man Tongue

Jokes aside, these dogs have been in Australia for 4wks now. If they carried any disease (rabies comes to mind) then its already to late. He took his dogs to a groomer here.....

WHY has it taken 4wks to do something about this?

Couldn't agree more. I'm sure Johnny Depp relies on his "people" to sort out the intricacies of international regulations and wouldn't have deliberately tried to circumvent our laws. The Quarantine authorities, on the other hand, despite millions of dollars being thrown at border security, have failed to Stop the Dogs!

Barnaby Joyces statements aren't helping. This could have been dealt with much more diplomatically. I don't think he has the vaguest idea of the international repercussions of the threatened euthanizing of the lovely little doggies, should it occur. We could kiss goodbye to most future Hollywood productions taking place in Australia, for one thing.

Really?  I fly my dogs often and never had to supply a cert within Australia.  And dogs coming from o/s can stay in quarantine only about a week if they get all the appropriate certificates before departure.  Quite stupid to smuggle in dogs on private plane, but in the rest of the world nowadays dog with its pet passport can travel quite freely, so he probably did not realise how big thing it is here..

I wonder when that came in. I've never had to provide vet certificates when transporting animals by plane.

Yeah, Barnaby is acting like a tool, as he's often inclined to.
