Ummmm, perhaps ask what going wrong with today's "modern" parenting   .... Not at all surprised these crimes are happening

I don't think there is much going wrong with our kids.

Most kids are decent people. Sure, they can sometimes be naughty, but not like this.

You are much more forgiving than I would be.

I don't think it is so much a case of what is wrong with the children but what is wrong with the parents.  Good old fashioned discipline seems to be a thing of the past....the long distant past.

While some parents may have gone overboard, I still think that a slap on the bottom or the legs when they were young kept many a child on the straight and narrow.

I don't think it so much parenting going wrong, there has always being violent people including children. An uncle of mine threatened my grandmother with a knife 50 years ago. Unfortunately there has always been violence.

perhaps we allways had bad kids in the mix but we didnt have a media able to bring their wrong doings to our attention so easily?

in the old days we had a weekly newspaper. then we got tv and had a daily news service at 6pm. but if a story didnt fit into the 20 minutes for news, prolly 10 for local, we didnt hear about it.

today everyone can be a newshound so everything gets reported.

but then when i was young there were no 'gangs of youths' stealing cars, mugging people and every other nasty thing they can think of.

only a few days ago 2 youths killed a guy in a servo and it seems like they just did it for fun!

everyday i'm hearing of some poor bugga getting attacked in their own home by kids looking for something to steal.

its just the nastiness thats crept into the crimes that bothers me most. its not pinching some milk money for some sweets anymore.

Maybe parenting is not going wrong but it is certainly being severely restricted.

If a parent dares to discipline their child in public these days they will probably find themselvs fronting the police because some do-gooder has reported them.

My children were pretty good on the whole but they certainly got a slap on the bottom or the legs if/when it was needed.

maybe part of the problem is we have young people having babies who didnt have great parents themselves. how often do i hear 'i was raised by my grandparents'. so something happened to make the grandparents take over the raising. the lucky ones who had grandparents ready and able to take over.

i have no proof but its my belief quite a lot of babys are born as meal tickets, have a baby, dont have to look for a job, get single parent funding, get a place to live. thats not a recipe for success.

In Nz you are not allowed to slap a child or even grab a child and put them in their room.

If a child is wreaking the house you cant touch them.

All this PC stuff does not help a child or a problem child at all.

I know of children that have said to their Parents you are not allowed to touch me so f off.

These same children grow up and all of a sudden they think even the Police cant touch them.
