list of apartments

I have been given a list of apartments to apply at. Cool, I looked up the location of a few. First one, no one in the office, no one around. The second apartment complex took my application, it went rather well, 3 year waiting list so they say. the third wasn't taking applications, try back in August. The forth had me fill out an application, but wouldn't take it and put me on the waiting list because I don't have my birth certificate. The driver's liscense and social security card wasn't good enough. I guess my presents or existence isn't proof enough that I was actually born.

The 5th one I called first to see if they would let me apply without the birth cirtificate, got a recording to leave a message, so didn't go there thinking they too wouldn't be in their office. Guess I'll hit it next week on monday. Running low on gas in the car and cash, have to be carefull about where I go. Of course having commited myself to volunteer work at a church, I'll be busy all weekend long.

I wonder if I can call JFS Monday and have them mail a copy of their copy to me here at the shelter. I know they should have it in their records. One other thing that seems to be going against me is my arrest record. The application don't just ask about any convictions, they want to know about arrests and being charged. Thats messed up. A minor footnote is they won't accept "Human" under race. I had to put white, it made me sick. But I had to play their racist game to get into a place.

This is gonna take longer than just a few days to apply at all of these, and a pain in the """ to keep track of, the list of places is so very long and I don't want to miss any for the possibility of getting in somewhere sooner rather than later.

Perhaps you can make a few $$ by taking people to the shops or get their lists and pick up things for a few people while you are going.

I was thinking the same, but also taking into consideration that some of what they would have me taking them to get could get me into trouble. Open container, possesion, ect. Good thought though Hawk.

Good luck, with your applications. Even if the wait is 2 years or more, to eventually get to the top of housing waiting list is your aim.. better than no hope at all.

There are long waiting lists for public housing in Australia as well, some areas up to 10 years.. ridiculous.

Joanie, maybe you could take a few orders for Pepsi and the like, so not take anyone with you. In case they get you in trouble.

About the birth certificate, can you apply for a certified copy/new certificate in your birth state? Here you can get a form for a copy at the post office. It takes a little while to get but it's doable. That way hopefully you can get the papers before your next applications.

Thanks, but coming into this shelter was really a no brainer. I doubt I could hiave survived these last few days in this cold in my car or the camper. It got much colder in such a short time, It kinda seems like God played a hand in it, me being in the right place at the right time to fall into this place. I didn't come here expecting to get into a homeless shelter, I came for a diffrent reason all together.

I lost my reading glasses then found them, I dropped my hair brush and it broke, but found a better one at a thrift store at a bargin price, It's like when I need a piticular thing, it seems to come at the time,when I need it most.

I wasn't looking to sell the Pepsi, bought it for me, and I'm guessing the staff would take a dim view on a venture of free enterprize here, I was asked if I wanted to sell, and so far have only sold two. Far as giving rides, I won't go looking, but if asked and offered gas money that I could sure use, I'll just be careful to keep an eye on my passengers.

The church food giveaway seemed to go well, I froze my hands up and now they are very dry and brittle, bought a bottle of lotion, so hopefully they are on the mend, Tomorrow is sunday, I am going to the women's sunday school meeting an hour before church starts. I'm a bit conflicted about, well, this thing with Leelah Alcorn, and how her parrent's strict religion played a part, I know it's more a case of religion being abused, but can't help but wonder how this church would accept me if they knew., those like Leelah and myself.

The cost is 25 dollars. For the moment, replacing it isn't an option, I have maybe enough money to cover gas to get back to the camper 100 miles away. I don't want to dip into that in case I lose this place to stay. But who knows? maybe something will pan out there as well. I will try to call JFS and see if they can mail me a copy of theirs on me. They should have one in their records.

Joanie, sorry if this has been asked and answered before but, why didn't you move in with your Dad?

I'm glad you are somewhere warm now. I'm not sure what our equivalent to your 'camper' is, but from experience of living in caravans (trailers) and old buses I know they are impossible to keep warm or cool.

I'm gonna offer a list of reasons and you can just take your pick.

1- He has not offered

2- theres alot of smoking going on in his place. It's the same at the shelter, but here, they aren't supposed to, it's not allowed, they just doo it anyway. So I'm stuck with the smoking thats not supposed to be going on, or an owner of his home smoking in his own home.

3- the dogs, 3 of them, and not sanitary or clean, I itch being around them for 3 minutes.

4- Dad jumps my case alot about just about anything, even coming down here, he says I'm going to mess up the assentence I applied for down there, by coming up here. But my only other choice is to freeze in the camper without heat. Also, I don't have to listen to dad complain about his electric bill from a cord ran to my camper from his garage.

I got a replacement birth cirtificate, It had the wrong information on it, but they refused to correct it, So I did with an ink pen.

Something is going on with my car. The steering is somehow messed up and it's pulling to the right. Something broke lose, not sure.

Well, the list was long. But many are not taking applications due to extreemly long waiting list, or only have 2 and 3 beedroom apartments, (it's just me) or I have to be 65 or older, (i'm 45) Shrunkin down to what I qualify for, the list is very short, but I have two applications in, and going to try and get two more in today (fingers crossed) Southpark, and Countrybrook. after 1pm when they come back from lunch.
