The drought. Exacerbated by climate change
Not a lack of trees, a lack of ground cover.

ok. so what d'you thinks causing the dust storms?
Let me guess. Global Warming? Climate change?
yes, its all part of the conspiracy, those darn scientists and their constant warnings of
terrible fires
floods
dust storms
droughts
rising sea levels!
thank the stars we have sensible nay sayers telling us the truth.
i'll just put my head back in the sand now, or is it a sandSTORM in a teacup?

It is caused by record droughts and high wind speeds
Now, work your way back to what caused the drought conditions (baby steps)

Huge hail storm, did lots of damage to cars and property.
Completely missed us though so we are lucky.

My part of Canberra missed the hail, which is good as I don't have undercover parking. More forecast tonight, though. Hope I have a drivable car in the morning.

I did hear that we could be getting more storms too.
Lucky as have a garage here. My mum's car got hail damage to the roof apparently in one of the hardest hit areas.

Years ago we had a huge Red Dust storm on the Gold Coast.
Shut all the windows and doors and the dust still got in, it was like grit

I do believe in my post I said:
"Yeah well. The trees and vegetation that hold the soil to the ground are gone, so it's ony to be expected."
Vegetation meaning ground cover. You know...plants with roots in the ground. Not necessarily trees. Hold the soil to the ground. Save it from blowing away in the wind.
Get it?

Years ago.2009, we had a red dust storm here in Sydney too. It covered the Harbour Bridge in red dust.
Probably a sign of things to come.

But there was no need to mention trees, as there are few of them, and those that there are are still there. No bushfires out west. No bush.
I'm not sure what your point was. Except a knee-jerk loonie right explanation for obfuscation of everything. Like your picture of a 2009 dust storm. Now we have another one, 11 years later. When was the previous one? How often do they occur? Is this another annual once-in-a-hundred-years event?
