VC recipient Ben Roberts-Smith slams Defence pay support as "absolute rubbish"

Victoria Cross recipient Ben Roberts-Smith says he has been "grossly misrepresented" by a media report which claimed he backed the below-inflation pay deal to Defence personnel.

And Mr Roberts-Smith has urged the Government to "get back into the boardroom" and offer Defence personnel a better deal, if the military doesn't believe the current proposal is the best on offer.

News Corp published a report on Monday headlined "VC winner roasts Lambie".

The article said "Victoria Cross recipient Ben Roberts-Smith has defended the meagre pay deal for soldiers, arguing the budget deficit required sacrifice".

The Government's below inflation pay offer has prompted an angry response from the Defence Force personnel.

Palmer United Senator Jacqui Lambie attempted to hijack Remembrance Day ceremonies and urged veterans to protest at November 11 events.

However the idea backfired and not even the Senator ended up turning her back in protest.

The News Corp quoted Mr Roberts-Smith as defending the Government's pay offer and reported him as saying "I am also cognisant of the fact the government was left with a deficit and there's only so much you can do with the money that you have".

But Mr Roberts-Smith told Melbourne Radio 3AW on Wednesday "I've been grossly misrepresented" in subsequent reports stemming from the initial News Corp story.

"You look at some of the headlines they've put out that I've essentially backed pay deals or I've supported this or accepted that or tried to justify the Government's position, it's just absolute rubbish," he told Neil Mitchell.

He said his position had never changed from supporting higher pay for the military.

Mr Roberts-Smith was not asked why he referred to the deficit when asked about the Defence pay offer. Nor did he say the quote ascribed to him was incorrect.

so what did he actually say?

it's pretty low, even for news corpse - if they apologise at all it will probably be on page 17, hidden somewhere amongst ads.

lambie urged veterans to turn their back on LNP pollies, not the memorial services themselves. She did not turn her back because the local member was not at the same event as her.

feel a little sympathy for the lambert, clearly out of her depth and maybe out of her mind. She has also altered one of Popes cartoons

and it hasn't gone down well, does she have any help with her new job?

She knocked back some who offered some support and said she doesn't need help.

She claims the altered image was posted on her FB page by someone else. Pope didn't seem too upset when he made the little jibe at her on twitter but her reaction was over the top in the extreme.
