"Don't Smoke, Don't Drink And Don't Go Out With Bad Men"

That's the secret to a long and happy life according to Winifred Hopes who, along with her twin sister, Flora Barrett, celebrated her 100th birthday today.

Australia's oldest set of twins celebrated their 100th birthday in Perth today.

Identical twins Flora Barrett and Winifred Hopes were born to a large farming family at Harvey, in WA's south west, in 1913.

They have lived through the Great Depression and two world wars.

Today the sisters opened letters from dozens of dignitaries, including the Queen, the Prime Minister and the Governor General.

Between them, they have 15 children, 36 grandchildren, 72 great grandchildren, and 19 great great grandchildren, some of whom joined them at today's celebrations.

Winifred, who had two sets of twins herself, says an active life including dancing, bowls and tennis had helped her reach the milestone.

"I don't feel 100, I only feel about 20," she said.

Her secret to a long and healthy life: "Don't smoke, don't drink and don't go out with bad men, that's the secret".

Flora says she has had a very happy life despite a difficult start while growing up in the country.

"Had to struggle in the early days," she said.

"Was lucky to wear a pair of shoes on our feet when we were young, things were that bad in the early days."

Both women say they have lived a happy life with no regrets, and there is still a few years left in them yet.

Previously, South Australian twins Gene and Dorris Clarke were the eldest when they died in 2012, aged 101.

Yeah, but that's only the bad stuff.  It's fun really.

1. We're retired, so can do what we want when we want

2. The kids are all adults and have somehow morphed into decent people who we can have fun with

3. No one expects you to look glam and shiny all the time now, so when you do make an effort you get heaps of compliments

4. You get cheap cheap stuff on seniors rates (well I do 'cause I had the foresight to marry someone who qualifies way before I do)

5. No mortage worries

6. I never have to go down the feminine hygiene aisle

7. Seeing as my mum is still going strong at 83 and my grandma lived to 101, I reckon I've got a way to go yet

See, it's all good Woman LOL

I think they mean moderation in consumption of alcohol

OK, fair enough.  Some people consider a couple of drinks every day as excessive.

I'm with you Lurker, 69 ATM and have no plans to shuffle off the mortal coil any time soon.

I have never bothered with anything in moderation and it's too late to start now, so may as well ramp up the wine, dancing and other things.

I still feel and think like a 30 something. My family reckon it is time to grow up, funny thing is that both my son and DIL seem a lot older than I am, which is probably just as well as this family needs some grown ups which apparently neither my OH or I managed.Smiley LOL

It's never too late to reform twinkles. You could start to ride a Harley, join an alternative society, become a grafitti artist, the opportunities are endless, anyway it sounds like you have done the good living thing, time to break out and shock the rellies.Smiley Very Happy

My Hair dresser I used to have in Auckland NZ told me his Grand Mother fell off a table she was dancing on at 84 and died, What a way to go, dancing on tables at 84 🙂
