"No one is the suppository of all wisdom". Certainly not you Mr Abbott!

This is what he said yesterday to a group of Liberal supporters (well who else). What a prime time goose.

And what a bunch of geese we will look when he represents us internationally.

“No one,” Tony Abbott told a Melbourne gathering of Liberal Party faithful, “however smart, however well-educated, however experienced … is the suppository of all wisdom”.

"Certainly  a silly slip of the tongue....but we all do it"

'We' are not leaders of political parties though,  or anyone who could  soon be PM making speeches  representing Australia to a world stage... big difference between 'we' and a potential PM of Australia.

It is not funny to C & P pockering's cartoons which include the same belt appendage that he always used when posting cartoons of the previous PM.

I was not funny then and it is not funny now.

pockering's implication is, of course, that Rudd doesn't have the same capability as (pockering) to leave fatherless children scattered all over the world'

Let's  all hope he is not the unflushable suppository on election day. Smiley Wink  Too good to resist that one Smiley Very Happy

As for published cartoons that are acceptable in the broad arena of public media, do we want to restrict everything on here just because it doesn't suit one's political bent?

As news of Abbott's unfortunate utterance filtered out, social media users quickly seized on the gaffe. The hashtag #suppository began trending on Twitter in Australia.

And people couldn't resist exploiting the situation's comic and crude potential.

"Oh dear. Abbott - "we are not the 'suppository" of all wisdom.' Not sure where to stick this one," wrote Marcus Priest, a political reporter for the Australian Financial Review.

'I feel sorry for Abbott & his accidental use of the word suppository. Stop going on like he's the enema," quipped Felicity Reynolds, the head of a non-governmental organization in Sydney.

It's not the kind of coverage Abbott's aides will have been hoping for ahead of national elections next month.

Oh my gosh! Leaders must be immortal and make no mistakes? I'm sure that all of our current and past leaders have made blunders...we/ they are only human.

There is an outcry this morning re Mr Rudds son for posting a pic on fb of him smoking a cigar. I found it amusing as a friend also posted  a similar pic on fb  to stir up his family...he is a non smoker!

to be honest, I didn't even get the belt thing til it was pointed out. The cigarette tax thing was what I actually though was funny.

No one here said leaders can't/don't make gaffes. It is the excusing/compaing of the gaffe by saying anyone can make one that doesn't make sense.

How many posters here have made speeches that have addressed the nation?

How many posters here have negotiated, spoke personally with other world leaders?

How many people here are likely to become PM next month.?

There is a BIG difference in a poster on a forum making a blooper than a leader of a country making a gaffe like that.
