"Vote for the Black Guy"

Local Government elections in S.A.  One candidate with a novel way of being remembered at voting time ....

"Vote for the Black Guy"

Do people feel uncomfortable about this ?  How would you feel if someone stated "Vote for the White Guy" ?

(not the same sort of gravitas I suppose)  Do you agree/disagree with it or don't you give a fig ?

"Vote for the Black Guy"

I did wonder what would happen if one of the candidates put a sign up underneath his with no vote for the white guy
If they would be jumped on as racist

How many candidates are there? If there are only two or if all the others are black then a poster saying "Vote for the White Guy" might be effective, if all the others bar one are white, then it would be a bit pointless.

"Vote for the Black Guy"

A lot easier for voters to identify him than trying to pronounce his name.

Some people see racism in the most benign things.

They see what they want to see.

I think the campaign is light hearted.....and friendly..

Actually that was tongue-in-cheek by me. I was sitting at my computer reading the story and thought to myself what would have happened if someone put up a campaign sign reading "Vote for the White Guy". The ABC would have called for a national day of action; the always-offended crowd would have marched on state parliament demanding a Royal Commission; and the rent-a-crowd mob would have demanded the candidate's immediate withdrawal from the campaign.

In a sea of white guys a sign saying "vote for the white guy" would be pointless.

It's his point of difference to make if he wants to.  No different than an 80 year old woman saying "vote for the grannie"

The world is full of opportunities to feel affronted if we look- and think -  hard enough.
