How would you react to this scenario?
Driving along a road you see a young boy in school uniform on his way to school waving a gun and knife at passing traffic.
Would you ignore him or take steps to ensure the gun and knife are 'toys' and not the real deal?

didn't you know? That's why we have them!
Speak for yourself............ at least the school understands fun!
OMG!!!!
How long have you been on CS for now???
Surely in that time you have come to realize that fun is banned???

Good question. Why are you referring to toys?
A lot of guns that are manufactured as toys can have the overall appearance of a firearm and be reasonably mistaken for a real gun, therefore classed as an imitation gun, thefore requiring a Prohibited Weapons Approval.
Twinkles said the gun looked real from 3 metres away, which would most probably put the toy gun in the prohibited (imitation) category. (Imitation guns are not the same as replicas)
So, why are you making references to toy guns being legal without knowing if that gun could have been classed as an imitation firearm?

meep....I think you may find that this is an interpersonal issue 🙂 Seems my opinion in other threads as well is always questioned and wrong according to srba. She jests IMO....a game?

Millions of kids have them. There is a difference.
Probably?
Hmmm. How many complaints do you think the school received about this boy......Their reaction says it all.
If a person sincerely thought the weapons were real, you would call 000 immediately......not muck around with the school.
That would make sense and be a logical response.
Therefore, the reaction is disingenuous as a concern that the guns were real.
And yes, toy guns are legal, and waved around by young children all across Australia.
Don't like toy guns, what are you going to do about it?
Victimise kids who play with them?

Let us turn this around. Real guns that look like toys? All of these are REAL guns. So wrong in so many ways!

Logicically I went to the school first, preventing the child from entering? 1 minute drive. Calling 000 first would have seen a long delay in police attendance. Some of think before we act 🙂

LOL, OK, that makes sense then because nothing else does.

More from Vic Police
Whilst these items cannot cause death or injury by shooting projectiles, they can
nonetheless cause public alarm due to their similarity in appearance to working
firearms. Even items that remotely resemble firearms could be easily mistaken as
working firearms in certain circumstances depending on factors such as lighting
conditions, distance from the object, the viewer’s knowledge of firearms and/or
circumstances in which they are carried.
The determination of whether a particular device has the reasonable appearance
of a working firearm is open to interpretation and should be considered “on
balance”. It is for this reason that devices fitted with a coloured barrel plug or
coloured grip is not sufficient, in and of itself, for an item to not be considered an
imitation firearm.
Imitation firearms are increasingly made to look remarkably similar to real
firearms, and can be made of any substance (metal, plastic, rubber, etc.) to
resemble either a longarm (rifle, shotgun, or machinegun) or handgun (revolver or pistol)

I don't believe that all of those pics are real guns....couldn't possibly be? But, toy and real guns are becoming increasingly harder to define. There are instances where toy guns have seriously injured due to the projectiles they release.
