The crow was sitting on the fence, pecking away at a piece of bread and Mother magpie was sitting up in the tree scowling at the cockatoos down on the table.

Looking at them, you wouldn't think that an hour earlier she'd been emitting blood curdling shrieks, while making a serious attempt on his life...

They'd arrived, earlier on, not much more than seconds apart, but it was long enough for him to pick up the last piece of bread...

Talk about cutthroat competition, or should I call it peck back of head competition...? ha ha.

It's nesting time, and every morsel, every scrap, every crust is valuable beyond estimation - "Only the best for my offspring!", ha ha.

On one of her many visits, today, Mother magpie saw me outside, and of course ran over...

I told her to hang on, while I went inside to get her something...

I was between her and the door...

Was...

I didn't think those little legs could move that fast, ha ha.

She got to the door, first.

With the cockatoos it's pretty easy - tell them to hop out of the way, and they will, but they're not "Why won't you let me inside to 'supervise' you Mother magpie...", ha ha.

Having gently guided her away from the door....

I looked back, and I could see her pressed against the flyscreen, like a kid at a department store Christmas window display, ha ha.

She's a character, ha ha.

It is way too early to even think about Christmas despite the fact that our local Coles has Christmas decorations and foods in stock already.

It is getting really ridiculous not....it is not even the end of September.

That's why I be warning everyone .....  

I actually think it's obscene that businesses etc start selling christmas stuff halfway through the year ...  

Mind you, I've already sent my hand made quilted gifts to friends overseas and put strict notes in the parcels that they are not to be opened until THE day (or the night before if observing the European traditional way).

Having said that, I have started making two special stockings now because there is so much I want to embellish them with, that I might not get them finished until 2018 because my schedule is so tight ...
