I don't see anything wrong with sitting down with an old lady and listening to her concerns for a few minutes, then "consulting the runes" before providing an alternative view on the situation that's troubling her.

It could be that she feels overwhelmed by what she feels is a vast gulf that has grown between you, over time, and she really doesn't know what to do. Maybe you could reach out to her? All you have to do is say Hello, it's been a long time. You don't need a big excuse, like the birth of a grandchild, to have a reason to simply say Hello.
It's a pretty simple suggestion. It gave her an option. If she chose not to go with it, it doesn't matter. The fact is that now she has something other than feeling stuck, and unsure what to do.
Seeing the future is for people who see the future, I prefer a more practical approach; "how do I get this cow out of this bog?", not "how will I get the mud off it, and will I still be able to trade it for magic beans, at the market?".
Oh, bother. I don't think this qualifies as either. It is funny, though. 
Actually when we could get youtube on the telly i watched that more than the shows being aried
