I'm not sure acacia, I really don't know too much about the Taliban or Afghanistan. I'm always ready to learn though. My guess would be that they don't know any different,, they don't realize that other places in the world aren't like that. I really only know a bit about those whose safety is at risk.
but right now I need to go to bed. Hopefully we can continue this another time? Late at night seems to be good - not so many interruptions.
stay safe

from your link, eloi:
"It becomes our concern because, firstly, it might potentially jeopardise our already good relationships in the past," he said.
"And second, the policy which is going to be implemented by Mr Abbott clearly ... annoys our sovereignty as independent country."
I knew this would happen, as did anyone who has their eyes open. One wonders why the LNP couldn't anticipate this response.
I think they did but used these policies to win an election. I wonder how durable they will prove to be now they have won.(the policies, I mean, not the LNP)

I have heard it argued (a long time ago now) that the war in Vietnam was an economic war for market share in Vietnam, against the Japanese I think it was.
The middle eastern wars are all economic wars, in my opinion. in this case, against the Russians. It's such a Machiavellian excercise that it's almost impossible to arrive at the true motivations for our intervention/s

The war 'machine' makes money for the already wealthy and once you have the taste for vast amounts of money you want more......greed blinds them from seeing the truth, what is right and what is good in this world. Other people and their needs are not important to them.
In these discussions about how to 'stop the boawts' it never ceases to amaze me how no-one points out that the first 'boat people' to arrive here in Australia are probably ascendants of theirs!

A member of the Indonesian parliamentary foreign affairs commission has described the Federal Government's asylum seeker policy as "offensive" and "illegal".
The Coalition's policy, dubbed Operation Sovereign Borders, officially began yesterday.
It includes turning boats back to Indonesia, buying old boats from Indonesian fishermen and paying Indonesians to spy on people smuggling operations.
Indonesian MP Tantowi Yahya told Lateline the commission has "major concerns" that the policy will interfere with his country's sovereignty.
Mr Yahya says the two countries need to work together or Australia risks damaging relations with Indonesia.
