what happened to the old cs I used to know?

After a long time away I return and all I can see is a plethora of political discussions. And most of them saying exactly the same thing. A multitude of copying and pasting from a couple of posters in particular in what seems like an endless stream of anti labor party threads day in and day out.

And the thing is the same topic is often repeated. For example boat people discussions. Why on earth don't those wishing to constantly harp on about them simply find an old discussion about the topic and continue posting on there instead of creating new ones? Or why not set up a topic and call it the "We hate the Labor Party and Julia Gillard because" and add to it every time you find something else to feel obligated to copy from elsewhere and paste here. That way all the discussions are in one place.

This place used to be entertaining, instead it seems to have turned into a anti Labor party discussion forum with a few other threads thrown in which disintegrate into stoushes between posters on here.

Though you lot were all adults? Some of the nastiness going on here is just out and out bullying. Little groups of nasty little girls and boys picking on certain people. Others taking delight in saying that they have screen saved a certain post by someone, no doubt so it can be used against that person another time.

I remember days when there was a lot of laughter happening here.

Seems like there are a certain group of posters who have decided they are in control and woe betide anyone who disagrees with what they post.

And no doubt they will be attacking me for venting here.

That is a serious question.

It seems to me the Boers "lost" the war

but won the political battle.

E.G Jannie Smuts and other Boers held the Prime Ministership

to the chagrin of the English.

Need to cook tea for my fibromyalgic landlady-will check in later.

Regards John.

Hi Moorna, I'm very new to these boards also but like you any naivety I had about what the score is around here was soon dispelled. I so agree that many worthwhile topics opened up for discussion just get hijacked. A lot of these hijacked threads are by posters who want to start or continue some personal vendetta they've brought over here from Facebook and/or Twitter which IMO should be against board rules. Also I noticed it stated on another thread that many who post here are not even active buyers or sellers and are classified as NARU - 'not a registered user" I believe is the term which is blatantly not right. That's obviously why some don't care what they post here because they have no 'stake", so to speak in Ebay.

The allowing of multiple posting ID's also should be abolished.

Hi John,

First of all, no, I'm not an Africana, I'm a British South African.

I assume you understand what the difference is between the two going by your wording.

I do however speak Africana fluently, just as I do Zulu and a couple or so other native African dialects, Spanish and Portuguese, and many of my closest friends are Africana's

As for the Wilbur Smith's novels I can't say that I've read more than the odd one or two of them many years ago.

I'm more of a 'Courtney' fan, but as far as I recall Smith knows his SA history pretty bleedy well (;-)) and uses it just as well in his books.

I haven't read any book by Smith that touched on the event you make mention of here so I can make a factual comment on it, sorry.

I won't go into my personal thoughts on SA political history here because I've had some other very ill informed posters here going off the deep end at me over it so find it not worth trying to discuss openly ๐Ÿ˜‰

I agree with most of what you have said, but I have to tell you that I too have 2 Ebay ID's.

This one is the one I only ever use for buying anything, which isn't all that much to be honest, and the other ID was set up when I decided to dip my toe in the Ebay selling game just the one time a couple of months ago now, but I never use that ID to talk on the message boards though, in fact I haven't bothered using it again since I first created it to use in that one Ebay selling foray.

I'm often accused of having multiply IDs but I just laugh that off as being paranoid by the accusers.

Thank you moorna,

I was wrong-not that it makes a difference to my attitude to you.

I find the history of South Africa fascinating/intriguing/very interesting..

The only South African I have met had the name  Kriegler-a beautiful auburn haired woman.

Her dog was a red setter-not common here.

Don't sweat the small stuff mate.

I also find the history of my original homeland just as fascinating/intriguing/interesting and still love it deeply, but I find history of all kinds just as interesting/fascinating/intriguing.

I would enjoy nothing more than to be able to openly discuss this kind of topic here with you John, but alas I know we'd both end up up to our backsides in muck and mire from the un-informed if we tried.

I'm intending going home around September/October time this year for a short holiday, the first time in about 5 years now.

I'll be going via Kenya.
