Should we be forced into having flu shots next? Remembering that flu has killed thousands. My daughters employer requires it (hospital)

I have a flu shot every year. Have angina and therefore my GP recommends I have it. I believe in immunisation. We have all had whooping cough vaccine because we have a new baby due any day. I did not need it as I am immune.

Epidemiology Influenza is a seasonal disease in temperate regions. Most cases in Australia occur during the winter months between June and September.9 In the northern hemisphere, influenza usually occurs between December and the next April, whereas in the tropics, flu can occur all year round. The number of affected people varies considerably from year to year. Epidemics of influenza occur during winter almost every year, more often due to a single virus type. However, different influenza virus strains may appear sequentially or simultaneously, and they can vary with geographic location.10 In Australia, there are, on average, dozens of deaths and thousands of hospitalisations per year specifically recorded as being due to influenza. However, these figures are underestimates, as a substantial proportion of influenza disease is not recognised and/or recorded by these means.5 For example, if a person who has influenza and then develops pneumonia dies, the cause of death may just be given as bacterial pneumonia. A study using mathematical modelling estimated that influenza is actually associated with more than 13,000 hospitalisations and 3,000 deaths each year in Australia, in people over 50 years alone.

Yes, death certificates have a three part COD.  The first is the immediate cause. Ca was probably in the second area?

I don't think the flu shot should be standard or forced as an everyday part of immunisation.

The killer flu of the year changes from year to year unlike regular immunisation, one type one shot...

I do think that it is ok to be made to have the flu shot for work... who wants to be a patient getting chemo only to have your onc nurse not be immunised and as a result she passes on a killer strain?

Same as the whooping cough, mumps, measles.. all that stuff.. it should be a 100% requirement for some in some industries.

I would have no prob with it being compulsory .I have one every year due to being asmatic  .It surprises me that most workplaces don't encourage it at least .At nowhere iv worked has it ever been encouraged yet most people who catch true influenza do take about a week off so

I always think if I was an employer id try to encourage staff to be vaccinated by offering to pay at least part .

I work in retail and its amazing how gross people can be sneezing, licking fingers to count money, wiping noses with sleeves and hands ect
