so these critters need to come in close to shore to shed their shells, and what do we do?
we do our darndest to catch every one of them.
next thing we'll be told these critters are on the endangered list and you cant catch any of them.

Perhaps they're driven to go crabbing because there's a dearth of tadpoles in Gardiners creek...
(Okay, maybe only Melbourne people will get that one, ha ha).
