working hours per week

Sweden is moving towards a six hour working day as Australia's hours increase.  It is not a rocket science; people slow down and make more mistakes when working long hours.  It would make very good sense to share jobs, reduce unemployment and prepare for the time when less and less people are needed to keep the economy going.  Actually, when most jobs are done by robots, and there is plenty of goods, the economy will need people to be mostly consumers, which is not going to work so well if most people are unemployed without livable income.

Could you live on the cut in pay that comes with it?

Best ask part timers that question when their penalty rates are abolished.

I am a strong advocate of a 4 day working week and a 3 day weekend.

Soooo many benefits, workers only need to learn to live on less.

Can people live on the pittance, which is the dole,  when they loose their jobs?  If there is not enough of jobs to go around, it is better to have the whole population working few hours a week less, then paying social security to the unemployed.  Is it fair that that employers expect people to work many hours unpaid overtime?

I once worked three days a week in a sawmill. That was great. Wasn't a huge amount of money but it made for a good work/life balance

What made our country great was men and women who worked and saved to get ahead. Not like what I'm reading on here. Where does the welfare money come from?

I also remember that to get a job all you had to do was to walk down the street of businesses and look at the billboards in the front ; each had number of positions vacant.  All you had to do is to walk in.  I remember when back in the 1960s, my flat mate went to work on rainy day and forgot her umbrella.  She worked in an office in the city in large building about 100m from the bus stop.  But right at that bus stop was another office building, and as it was pouring rain, she walked in the lobby, thinking that would be much more convenient place to work in.  Walked to a reception, asked for a job and got one as a PA to one of the directors, for lot more $ than her old job   LOL
