Mobile phone not meant to be sold in Australia

I purchased a mobile phone... and unable to connect to facebook.. When I contacted the phone manufacturer was informed that that phone was not to be sold on the Australian market... as it shows the region as the Republic of China.

I have contacted seller on many occasions. Have pleaded my case. Have asked them to please send a new phone in good faith  and I would return the phone I had as soon as it arrived...(for medical reasons I need a phone 24 hours a day)... but they haaen't even sent me a phone number so that I can call them to discuss this... its not that they don't know who I am... or where to contact me.

All they did was sent me an address to return to the phone... nothing else??? the market place on the phone is also in Chinese....

try posting this on the Buying board. after a few of them tell you off for not checking the region the phone was meant for someone will tell you what you actually need to know. some of them cant help themselves. phones for hong kong are fine for Australian use and networks being compatible.Smiley Happy

I presume you paid via Paypal in which case as you'll have to return the phone to the seller, you will need to lodge a dispute with Paypal so that they can give you the correct address to which you must return the phone.

Do NOT return it to any address other than that provided by Paypal, and remember that you must first also remove the Li-ion battery before sending the phone back to China as they are prohibited goods and cannot be sent anywhere by air mail.

Also, when returning the phone only, do so via Registered Post International which is the postal method recommended by Paypal. This will cost you approximately $22 of your own money and is an unrecoverable added expense.

There's no way the seller will replace the phone without receiving the original one back first so if you absolutely must have a phone for medical reasons, just buy yourself a $24 cheapie from Coles for use in the interim.

I don't know what you originally paid for your Chinese phone, but bearing in mind that the cost of buying an interim replacement plus the cost of returning the unsuitable phone to China will set you back a minimum of $46 or more, you really need to ask yourself if it's worth all the expense and effort of doing so, especially as there's no guarantee that the replacement phone will be any better than the original.

Anothe case why ebay should ban the sale of mobile phones. But then again you say you need it for medical reasons but you are complaining because you cant get on facebook?

i cant think of why Ebay should ban the sale of phones. the sellers should only sell phones that are compatible sure, but a lot of people move their phones on through this platform .
