GUNSHOTS - There was no time to waste; Grace quickly dialled 000 and whispered for help, while nudging Rufus ahead of her to the safe room, and she breathed a sigh of relief as she closed the secure door and activated the alarm system which included loud sirens, several tough male voices and the sound of (fake but convincing) gunshots to frighten the intruders.

SURELY - Shivering in her thin nightgown, Grace cuddled Rufus to keep warm - surely the alarm system would frighten the intruders away, probably even before the police arrived, which she hoped would be very soon so she could snuggle back under her lovely warm blankets.

YOWL - Lights were coming on from houses all down the street, although Grace could not see it; she switched off the alarm to gauge whether the intruders had gone, and heard a mighty yowl from outside, which sounded like Mr Gregorovich in full outrage mode, shouting something like “You’re not getting my car!”

LOVE - Settling on the comfortable sofa Grace was so relieved that she and Rufus were safe. She bent down and kissed him and whispered in his ear I love you!

END - The police were there within what seemed like both an aeon and mere seconds, which must have been a symptom of the shock she’d gone through – but oh! it was good to know that the miscreants were in handcuffs and that the danger was at an end.

DIGGING - Rufus was hard and fast with it on this warm day. As I was planting he was digging near the outside washing and the dirt was flying onto Grace`s dress. Naughty Rufus!

GRIN - Grace heaved an exasperated sigh as she brushed at the dirt: no time to change if they were to be at the meet and greet punctually, so she clipped the lead onto the collar, smiled at Rufus’s grin, and headed towards the car.

NODDED - At the meet and greet Grace introduced Rufus to the lovely little Jack Russell mix and, while both were slightly wary at first, they quickly began running around and playing with each other, at which Sue (from the shelter) nodded to Grace, signifying her approval.

DELIGHT - With a sense of great delight, Grace carefully patted the Jack Russell mix and then gave Rufus a pat as well, making sure to give both dogs attention to avoid any doggie jealousy.

TREATS - Watching them both playing so well and behaving themselves Grace reached into her bag and pulled out a couple of dog treats for them.
