The Ups and Downs of Synonyms (New Game)

I hope this new game will be fun...

In this new game, you have to select a word from the sentence of the previous poster and write a new sentence with a synonym of that word that is either longer or shorter than the original word.

The next poster then chooses a new word from your sentence, selects a synonym of that word that is either longer or shorter and writes a new sentence, and so on.

For example:

- She liked to spend a lot of time at the library, reading old books and pondering about life.

The next poster chooses a word, for example old, and a synonym of a different length, for example elderly, and then writes a new sentence.

- He visited his elderly brother in his tiny apartment and listened to some nice, relaxing music with him.

And so on...

Let's get started...

- When she entered the shop that seemed to have magically appeared overnight, she had a strange feeling of déjà vu, even if she was sure she had never seen it before, let alone entered it.

BODY - Feeling an unquenchable passion deep inside for all things related to death and cemeteries, he had created a secret room with skeletons posing like in real life, some hugging, some relaxing on a couch, some twisting their arms and legs in an exotic "Danse Macabre" like in the late Middle Ages.

COUCH - She found her neighbour's lounge to be very uncomfortable - she felt as if it was trying to suck her in and swallow her whole - and the neighbour's badly disguised look of anticipation every time she sat down only heightened her discomfort.

I was wondering whence those prisoners came, and I realised it was from papermoon's reply a few posts up!

So I'd best follow on from veiled.lady's COUCH post, if that is okay.

ANTICIPATION - The small quiet man who lived at number 22 made no attempt to engage with his neighbours, kept himself to himself, and would never say anything more than a hesitant "Good day" if anyone spoke to him, but the tall thin long-bearded gentleman who came to see him on that dull July day was not surprised by this state of affairs; the two of them had first met in 1944, in one of those grim death-camps from which few had emerged alive, and even if their bodies had survived, their minds and emotions found it hard to regard the future with anything but resignation and a crippling sense of hopelessness.

HOPELESSNESS - He looked out of the window in the hope to see some colours in the sky, as it was just before sunrise, but the clouds had marched in with huge, black boots, and not even a tiny beam of light was to be seen - it was just an ominous feeling of despair everywhere.

CLOUDS - I scrutinised the day’s charts generated by the new meteorological software; the pressure troughs were depicted in stark curving lines, and from the various data I gauged that we were in for a dark day with high possibility of stormy conditions and great masses of cumulonimbus-laden skies.

SOFTWARE - Luckily before throwing my laptop out of a window, I realised the issue I was having was not with the program settings but the hardware, and was an easy fix
