I want to change my email address to gmail but I’m having difficulty.

I opened a  Gmail email account some time ago when I changed my telco. I didn’t use it but kept my Yahoo email ac as I had been using it for years. My Yahoo account has since stopped so I want to use the gmail ac. I had a conversation with a consultant this morning who said to cancel my account. I don’t want to cancel my eBay account but just want to change the email address. On the Personal Information page it stated that my gmail address was already in use. It is by me not someone else, I am the same person. I just want to delete the old Yahoo email and just use the G mail account. HELP.

Have you got another account with that gmail address?

You have to use different email addresses for every eBay account you have or create, even if you are the same person.

I have just spoken to the contact center to fix my problem - this is the only way you are going to fix this problem.

you will find that at some time you have unknowingly started another account and ebay has your new email address. This is why you cannot use it. You need to ask them to delete this account - which will free up your new email and allow you to change it in your account. This will take 30 - 60 days.  they are very helpful!

I have the exact same problem. old email is TPG and new is gmail. As far as I know - I dont have another account using the gmail address - so how can it be in use - its my address!!

How can I check a duplicate account with a different email??

What can happen is that at some point a person has used that address for an eBay account then if account has been left as dormant, the email server may allow the address be re-registered after some time but eBay won't. 

Especially if the account was never closed.
