Scam SMS message started arriving, how did they get my phone number?

This only started yesterday but both yesterday and today I received an SMS from a number spoofed to look like ebay.com.au claiming I had coupon codes or some such to use and a link to an ebay.onelink with a phone number to reply to, now I never gave eBay my phone number in the first place so how did they get it and my first name, have one of my accounts somewhere been compromised or is this sort of information easy to obtain? But if it is how did they know to target it to eBay?  I didn't open anything they sent because basic sense and I reported it to ebay (the number they were messaging from is a known scam number as it would turn out once i searched the number).

Sorry if this is on the wrong board.
Thankyou for any help provided

It's probably sent to many phone numbers regardless of whether the receiver has an eBay account.

Similar to those emails made to look like they are coming from a bank, PayPal or your phone company.

I too just got a msg 'eBay' and the link to get the discount did have an 'S' in front of the HTTP, indicating secure but I thought I'd check first as it was followed by a 'reply 'Stop' to a mobile number which I thought was odd. I don't know how clever scammers have gotten, but something didn't quite feel right with this. Is this a common new thing, does anyone know?
