tax information request.

I received an email purportedly from Ebay requesting my tax information.  I have treated it as scam.  Please advise if that is the case.  If not, I need information regarding your request for this information.

It indeed sounds very, very, very much like a scam

I'll eat every hat I own if it is for real

(do you have another ID where you sell a huge volume of items, have an ABN etc etc) ?
