Do I have to issue a refund?

I recently sold a portable fridge as pick up only.  I had the fridge plugged in & working for 3 days prior to auction ending so the buyer could see that it worked fine upon pick up.  An interstate bidder bought it & had it shipped by courier at his own expense so I unplugged it.  The buyer is now claiming the fridge does not work.

Not sure what to do.  Do I have to refund the money?  How can I be sure he is telling the truth.

No,  it is the buyers problem, you have no way of knowing what has transpired whilst in transit,  It is the buyers responsibility tp check or have the item checked before taking possession, and if it was in working order when it left, that is the end of it,  also even if you did agree to a refund, if you thought you were in the wrong, they would have to return it, and in the exact same condition it left,

Hope the fridge was not laid down in transit, and the buyer knew to let it stand for 24 hours before turning it on to allow the gas to settle.
