I have been buying for a few years and just started selling.I have only sold a few items and have been out of pocket each time as the postage charges outweigh what I recieve in. I don't know if I should be charging more for postage or starting off with a higher auction price.

You should never charge more for postage than what it is worth plus maybe $1 or $2 more for handling, and always start an auction with a price that you will be happy with receiving if only one bid was made on it.
