Conversion fees with paypal

Hi, I know that a buyer does not have to pay paypal fees for purchases on ebay.

But what I was wondering is, what sort of currency conversion fees would be applicable?

I have merrily bought items from overseas a few times in the past, mainly from places such as USA. Sometimes quite small items.

Not lately though.

Never thought to check at the time what extra fees were paid.

What has set me off is on Friday I lobbed up to a bank to pay $75 into a friend's account as a gift. She is in NZ. they told me that even though it was the same bank (westpac), there would be a $32 conversion fee & $22 if done online.Smiley Surprised

I nearly died, and marched out. I expected a bit in conversion fees, maybe a couple of dollars, but nothing like up to 40 % or whatever. That was a bank fee of course, not a paypal fee. But it got me wondering.

So if I use paypal on an overseas purchase, what would conversion fees amount to? Sorry if it is a silly question, just I haven't found a definitive answer on ebay, although i daresay there is one, somewhere.
