Credit card payments without paypal account

Ebay would not let me make a credit card payment without a paypal account. This was not the case a week ago.

Is this a new "feature"? I can find no information about why anywhere on ebay, and they don't let me contact them except by dialing an international phone number.

I will not use ebay again until this issue is resolved; I refuse to use paypal as I do not trust them and I don't want to accidentally bid on something and find there is no other way to pay for it.
