I have a cancelled purchase which was brought using a debit card via Paypal link.

I have cancelled a purchase which was via Paypal link and using the credit card option. The seller has advised they have refunded the payment via Paypal, but I have not received any notification. How long does it take Paypal to process the refund and to give notification. I assume that notification will come through to my Paypal account.
As the credit card used (debit card) was not linked to the Paypal account is this a problem re Paylpal processing the transaction (refund)?
