I have been charged twice for an item that I've now cancelled. How do I get refunded?

So I accepted an offer to purchase a Blu Ray of the Alfred Hitchcock movie "Lifeboat", and went ahead to pay it. After initially trying to pay for it, I found that I had insufficient funds in my bank account. I realised that due to the conversion rate (the item is from the United States, and I'm in Australia) for both the item and the postage fee, I was unable to afford it. So I decided to cancel my order. 

However, upon checking my bank details, I found that I was charged $22.06 twice for the order which I not only had failed to pay, but also since asked to cancel. I was wondering if there's anything that can be done to resolve this, and for me to get my $44.12 back?

So what happened was that I tried to pay twice, but when I went to do so it said the transaction failed - and I soon realised that this was because I had insufficient funds in my account, because it turned out that I couldn't afford the item after conversion. Yet even though it said the transaction failed, on my bank account it shows that I was still charged $22.06 twice.

The item and the postage plus charges was always going to be in excess of A$60....why would you go ahead and buy if you could not afford it?

I suspect the $22 is a charge from your bank for being overdrawn.....you tried to pay twice so 2 charges.
You need to be aware that paypal usually makes 2 attempts to get the money from your bank account so there could be at least 2 more fees if there is insufficient money in the account.

When I realised the full cost after conversion and the fact that I didn't have enough money in my account, I made the decision to cancel the order.

For the record, since my last response the seller went ahead and accepted my request to cancel the order. Though I'm still not sure regarding what to do to get my $44 back

If the seller has cancelled the order that will probably avoid any further fees but the $44 is between you and your bank....nothing to do with ebay or the seller.

Did the seller confirm they actually accepted your request to cancel first of all

How long after you bought did you message them and asked to cancel (and did you let them know why?) 

and did you pay by PayPal linked to your bank account ?

Are you sure you were charged twice and that the amount charged is'nt 'double' because of the US dollar?

I am suprised it did not show you the amount in AU in the listing before you bought

Were you logged in to eBay Oz or US when you bought it?

Hi there,

So while I made the request to cancel a few minutes after I accepted the offer, I have yet to hear back from the seller - nor has my request to cancel been approved yet. When I did attempt to pay (through my bank account) and before I realised the full cost after conversion, it said that it failed to go through due to insufficient funds. The full amount (including postage) after conversion would have been well over $60 AUD. And I was logged in to Australian eBay.

I should also briefly add that I'm rather new to eBay, and still getting used to using the site.
