I won a bid, opened a paypal account, but it takes them 40 days to increase the limit - what to do??

I won a bid (without Paypal account), and could only pay via Paypal; I opened an account thinking it would be relatively straight forward, but now it appears it takes them up to 1.5 months to verify the account and credentials as the amount of the bid exceeds the limit. What should I do next? I am due to pay and I want to avoid a non-secured payment method for an overseas shipment. Any advice???
