Unauthorised purchase.

I have just been asked to verify a purchase for $599.99 via PayPal. I did not make any purchase for this amount. How do I cancel this transaction before it is actioned?

eBay will never phone you to “warn” you that a fraudulent purchase has been made with your account.

That is a classic scammer call.

NEVER do any of the following with a call claiming to be from eBay (or indeed any business or agency contacting you out of the blue):

• confirm you have an eBay account

• confirm your name, address, DOB, etc

• provide your card details

• download any app that is supposedly a secure server for refund purposes 

• click links

• call, or email, or visit webpage when any of these are given by the caller (as you should always use the correct web address, the official (on official site) contact details, and so on)

• spend more than a few seconds on such criminals.

Don’t give them any information.

If you have, be prepared for credit card fraud, identity theft, further spam/scam emails and calls…
