can't log into paypal and says I don't have a credit card linked, but we do

I went to pay for an item through our paypal account this evening, that i had just bought, but when i logged in and went to pay, a message came up saying we have insufficient funds and to link a credit card, but our credit card is what we use for our account and there is sufficient money on there to pay for the item i want, I double checked that. I went to paypal directly to check if anything is wrong, the card is there to use. Why is it doing this? Very frustrating when I want to pay for the items and not leave the seller wondering.
