Hi, why does the "number of bids" shown in an auction listing increase each time a bidder increases their maximum bid amount? I was recently watching an item and the starting bid amount remained the same however the "number of bids" kept increasing. When I looked into the bidding history, the bids where all from the same person who was just increasing their maximum bid amount (6 times in total over the duration of the listing). My initial thought was "this person must really want this item, theres no hope of me winning it, so I wont bother bidding". Im not sure if this is a clever way of bidding for an item or a sneaky way of "putting off" any competition. It certainly worked on me (only this time!).
