Is there a maximum number of variants I can include in 1 listing?

Is there a maximum number of variants I can include in 1 listing?, I have reaached 47 and am getting an error when I try to add more?

I am not overly keen on splitting the items up and creating another listing if I can avaoid it.

As a buyer I am not keen on scrolling through a huge list of variants and move onto the next seller that may have 6 variants so I easily find mine and click buy then pay. And I am not particularly lazy which many are.

It may be more prudent to seperate into 2 or 3 listings, perhaps into relevant categories that buyers are likely to search for. Even if some variants overlap, you basically 3 times the key words to use for searches in 3 seperate listings. It could also be a good test to see which works better.
