I stopped selling on ebay a few years ago when they were bullying Australian sellers to use paypal. I've just read now that the payment options have changed...but it's just as difficult as ever to find straight forward answers to simple questions.
As an Australian seller, if I list something and state that payment can be made via Direct Bank Transfer, Money Order, Payment on pick up (for example) and that Paypal is available, but ONLY to buyers OUTSIDE of Australia...am I meeting ebay seller requirements ?
"That being said, I would have thought that the feedback rating system here would go a long way in providing potential buyers with an informed choice."
The problem is though that even the best of sellers can come to issues at some point , unexpectedly or otherwise but many buyers would not take that risk if PayPal/Paymate was not an option.
It's not bullying.
You can offer Paymate. Few buyers will opt for this as it costs them $50 non-refundable to open a dispute.
You can offer a merchant credit card facility. You can then charge the buyers the cost for processing the transaction, but not the monthly fees you get charged by your bank for the facility.
Or you can offer Paypal and give a buyer peace of mind for a relatively small price. And probably increase your sales, thereby.
I wouldn't pay by an 'unsafe' method unless I had had numerous previous transactions with the seller. Why should I buy from you when I don't know you from Adam and you don't want to take responsibility if any issues arise?
