hing_7093, this is a well-known scam. You're right to be suspicious!

Gutterpunkz has posted what you should do with this particular instance. You should definitely follow through with that advice.

Kopenhagen pointed out that you should open an unpaid item case.

As Kopenhagen has also said, you will need to ensure that this doesn't happen again. Bookmark the relevant policy pages as well, so that you have a reference to hand for the future:

Setting postage options - especially useful for selling pick-up items;

Updating postage options - for listings that have already sold (specific circumstances only);

Setting buyer requirements - this is specifically to what Kopenhagen was referring. A lot of eBay members, when selling, don't realise that they can set their buyer requirements;

Selling internationally - if you decide at some stage to make some of your items available for some overseas buyers;

Fee credits - for when something goes wrong and you need the fee credited back to your account.

Your best best BY FAR is to contact eBay directly - using the Have us call you option (during business hours - 8 am to 10 pm, 7 days a week) - and explain that there was a fraudulent purchase (attempted scam/phishing) for item number [xxxxxxxx], that you want the sale cancelled and the final value fee credited. Take note of the eBay rep's name and the time and date, because it is not unknown for a final value fee credit to be promised but not to be actioned - and you will be best able to follow up if you have all the details to hand.
