It is not the new look that is the cause - Ebay now limit the number of times an item can be relisted when it is by auction. Buy it now items keep relisting until sold/ended.
My suggestion would be to list as buy it now. If you wish you could accept offers automatically if over a certain amount.
As a buyer I rarely look at items that are on auction, if I want something I want to buy it on the spot. As a seller of handcrafted items (on another account) I only use buy it now.
