i get a message saying i need to give license or passport to sell on ebay well for a start i dont own either so im sure theres other people in the same boat i guess ill sell on gumtree then

Just in case this has not as yet resolved for you:
ebay ( eventually) accepted my Photo ID which can be obtained from the Motor Registry by people like you and I who do not drive, nor have a passport.
It states clearly that this is accepted on ebay's pages, however I found that if someone outside Australia is the one to verify your ID, they may not know. it is okay. I wrangled with several over this, but I refused to give up.
Persistence is crucial if you want to sell here still.
