Putney, I tried to purchase something a couple of days ago from a big Chinese seller who had the notice in his store about being away for Chinese New Year and there would be a delay in shipment. Since I wasn't in any hurry I thought I'd just Buy it Now but was unable to purchase - a message came up saying "you are unable to purchase this item since the seller is away - please add it to your watch list" - that may not have been the exact wording but it was something to that effect.
Maybe this option isn't available on eBay.au but it was definitely there.
