Sold item. how to notify Ebay of sale & cancel ad.

I have just sold an item on Ebay.  The item was picked up and paid for.  How do I notify Ebay the item has sold and arrange to have the advertisement for it cancelled?

Hopefully nobody buys the sold item while you still have it listed 

Did you have it listed elsewhere and sell it there?

Did someone contact you via eBay but you sold it to them 'off eBay' ?

Thanks Sandypebbles but I don't think you understand the question. I simply want to cancel the advertisement because I sold the item. I know it seems a silly question, but I can't see anywhere on the Ebay website where it tells me how to let Ebay know the item has now been sold.

I did indeed understand the question

And although you were already given the answer, it is important to note the reason how it was sold IF it was not done so through the proper eBay process

If it was sold through eBay the right way, you would not need to tell them, once a buyer buys on eBay, the item is automatically ‘sold’ and shows as such (and, as said, it would have had to of been done correctly for the buyer to have your address)

Otherwise, when you contact eBay to tell them it sold, they will ask the same question

Not that it matters but I answered 7 hours & 5 minutes before sandy... not long after you posted your question.
I can answer the question.
Simply ask the buyer to click on Buy It Now & that will end the item.
You mark it as paid.

Yes, I only added in case it had been sold through eBay messages without the buyer hitting by now

Like yourself, I do not know how the buyer got the address to pick up otherwise

The OP appears somewhat reluctant to provide full details.

If you sold an item (your listings indicate this is not the case) then your buyer would would have clicked on Buy It Now then contacted you for you address, inspected & paid...which you have stated they have done so.

There would then be no need to "notify" eBay.

How did the buyer obtain your address without following this process?

Perhaps you should contact the buyer & request that they click on Buy It Now,

I've just realised my item was actually sold through the ad that was also on Gumtree, so I just need to delete the ad from Ebay. How do I do that?

Tick the box next to the item on your selling page, then choose "end" at the top.

Without knowing which format of selling page you use, I can't be more specific.
