Why does combined post items are labelled 'postage free'?

I have listed a few items which ended up being bought by the same person. Each item have their own postage price of $7.20, and i have them combined post, which then becomes a total of $8.25 for postage price.
The buyer have paid the total, but are confused of the combined postage price that when look into purchase history list, all the items are labelled 'postage free' by eBay after combined post and thus asks for the reason for paying postage when the items are listed 'postage free'.
I don't really know how to explain the situation as i too do not understand the reason for eBay to do that. Can anybody please help to explain why does the individual postage price changes into 'free' after combining postage?
